Goals:
To relieve pain as a complement to complete rest.
Pain relief is often more effective during stimulation, but the effect may continue once the programme is over.
Benefits of electrostimulation Electrostimulation blocks the transmission of painful impulses. This method, used everyday by physiotherapists, relieves pain without causing side effects and can therefore help to reduce the intake of oral painkillers.
Explanation and protocol:
Injuries to the Achilles tendon represent the most common problem for the long distance runner. The causes may be many, but the overworking of joints associated with the volume of training, often significant, which the discipline entails is in general the primary cause of tendon pain appearing. Normally, tendonopathy begins with an acute or inflammatory phase during which the region of the tendon is hot and inflamed, the pain is sharp and appears on palpation of the tendon and during movement of the ankle. At this stage, the pain prevents running and sometimes impairs everyday movements, such as coming down stairs, for example. The Acute tendinitis programme provides effective relief for tendon pain during the inflammatory phase, during which there must be complete rest from any sport. Too sudden a return to training or training that is insufficiently gradual is a recognised factor that can lead to a runner being out of action long term.
If the acute phase can be overcome, the Achilles tendon affliction more often than not enters a chronic phase, for which the Chronic tendinitis programme then (but not before!) becomes the recommended treatment.
Cycle duration
During the whole of the acute phase and persistence of inflammatory signs.
You are advised to consult your doctor if no improvement is observed after the first week of use
Cycle sequence
At least 1 session every day
Depending on needs, sessions can be repeated several times during a single day.
Position of the body: Adopt any comfortable position
Energy setting:
Gradually increase the stimulation energies until a very clear tingling sensation is felt. Reduce the stimulation energy levels if undesirable muscular contractions appear.
The miTENS function automatically regulates stimulation energy levels to avoid any unwanted muscular contraction
