Long run optimisation xxxxxx
Goals: To increase the benefits of a long run while maintaining sufficient muscular activity to help improve endurance.
Benefits of electrostimulation Electrostimulation helps to develop the capillary network without putting additional strain on the joints.
Explanation and protocol: One of the conventional weekly sessions for the long distance runner's physical preparation is the traditional long run, often on a Sunday, for socio-professional reasons. This training, which consists in running at an extremely comfortable pace for a time slightly less than that of the target competition actually develops endurance capabilities effectively and also accustoms the body to enduring the effects of sustained effort. If this type of training does not normally place a major stress on the runner in the preparation phase (effort largely below maximum), this is not the case for the body, which will have to set up consequent recovery mechanisms to re-establish its working capacity at a level at least equivalent and if possible greater than the initial level. The Long run optimisation programme increases the benefits of a long run by means of a stress-free electrical stimulation session and thus maintains muscular activity at a moderate level, but still adequate to foster improvement of muscular endurance, while still relieving the osteo-articular system totally of exaggeratedly repeated stresses induced by excessively long training.
Area of application:
Cycle duration Throughout the season
Cycle sequence One session a week, in the hour following the long weekly run
Position of the body: Adopt any comfortable position
Energy setting:
Gradually increase the stimulation energy until you get very pronounced muscular twitches (sort of large muscle vibrations).
The miRANGE function is a useful aid to ensure you are working in an effective area.
